2011 Unique monoprint in 2 motifs (heads and tails) 50 × 40 cm Edition of 50 (unique series 25 per motif), signed and numbered
Sophie Von Hellermann is known for her large-scale pastel washed canvases, which often draw upon a combination of current affairs, classical mythology, literature, and imaginary landscapes.
Here, Von Hellermann’s monoprints bear the two images depicted on the pre-2008 fifty pence coin: the head of Queen Elizabeth II and on the reverse, the
image of Britannia, the embodiment of Britain as divinity and female warrior.
