Produced by Kwok to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of The Institute of Contemporary Arts, Cum To Barber (Orgasmic Yellow 1970s) is one of an on-going series (Cum To Barber) of related works exploring the theme of barbering and the importance of this arena across a broad range of ethnicities and time periods.
Having studied fashion design, the medium still fascinates Kwok. The diversity of styles and street fashion of London, melded with sexuality and period films, influence Kwok's output with common subjects in his work ranging from explicit male nudes to period portraits and still life compositions. Hairstyles and shoes are among his favoured images, which Kwok utilises to subtly allude to issues of race, ethnicity, culture, gender and sexual equality.
