Henrik Olesen’s edition for the ICA is about love and friendship and consists of two parts. The DIN A1 photo collage portrays two famous companion species animal couples (Suryia the Orangutan with Roscoe the Bluetick Coonhound, together with Baloo the Brown Bear and Shere Khan the Tiger). Here the couples are brought together with unarticulated, restless gestures of colour formations and traces of activity. The accompanying text collage on yellow paper (A4) consists of fragments and cut-outs from Donna Haraway’s “Companion Species Manifesto” (2003).
Henrik Olesen’s artworks often contain a variety of references to gay subculture and homosexual history. He uses information in the form of text, images and other materials at hand to address relations of power and social norms. This edition for the ICA focuses on concepts of categories and hierarchies in order to propose possible ways of their re-arrangement and deconstruction. It used to be like this; it is no longer the case.
