Digitally printed, folded and perforated poster with a glass bottle of hand-pressed small-batch Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Poster:82.5 × 61cm, E.V.O.O.: 1 litre
Edition of 25, signed certificate
Shannon Ebner is known for her photographic-based works which explore language as material form.
For this edition, Ebner has combined a poster with small batch-pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil (E.V.O.O.). The limited-edition poster brings together three of Ebner’s photographic typefaces from over the past two decades, capturing the artist's recognisable visual style in this bespoke to ICA configuration. Referenced in the print, the olive oil, bottled in 2019 by Webe Farms of Reedley, CA, is one of four olive varieties: Arbequina, Arbosana, Mission or Koroneiki.
The concept for the edition and initial production stages were commenced pre-pandemic, with production halting as much of the world did. Completed in the landscape of COVID-19, the edition's discrete nods to consumerism, branding, taste and value – foregrounding the role of language in these, both semantically and graphically – have gained a new contextual layer of meaning.
Special thanks to Eden Batki
Shannon Ebner (b. 1971, Englewood, New Jersey). Recent solo exhibitions include; Altman Siegel Gallery, San Francisco (2019), Cantor Center for the Arts at Stanford University, Palo Alto (2019), kaufmann repetto, Milan (2019), Eva Presenhuber, New York (2017) and ICA Miami (2015).
