This limited edition print by Alasdair McLellan, was created exclusively for the ICA to accompany Alasdair McLellan and Lev Tanju: The Palace (8 July – 24 July 2016).
The renowned British photographer is celebrated for his numerous campaigns for magazines and fashion brands such as i-D, British Vogue, Miu Miu, Calvin Klein and Louis Vuitton.
This edition accompanies the exhibition which features a collection of archive and unseen images of the famous Palace Skateboards team and its extended family in the London skate gang, the Palace Wayward Boys Choir (PWBC). McLellan has been documenting the scene around Palace since its launch in 2009.
The photograph is a portrait of Blondey McCoy, a 19-year-old skater, designer and artist who is part of the Palace and the PWBC. Blondey is seen here aged 16 on Lower Marsh in London’s Waterloo, a few doors down from the house which became known as “The Palace”. For a decade this was home to key members of the PWBC, who also went on to found Palace Skateboards.
Alasdair McLellan was born 1974 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
